Volunteering

What we do

We raise seedlings until they’re robust enough to plant in permanent local sites: conservation projects, warden-managed nature reserves, allotments, domestic gardens, schools. Mainly, people want plants for hedges.

Each year we follow a cycle...
  • Autumn: gathering seeds and cuttings at selected chalk downland and Wealden sites, processing, stratifying.
  • Winter: maintaining our site, pruning, preparing trees for customers.
  • Spring: planting, transplanting, tending seedlings.
  • Summer: watering, weeding.

We develop wildlife habitats on site, and experiment and refine our organic growing methods.
Practicalities

No experience is necessary - just a passion for trees. We provide the necessary tools and equipment.

  • Time: Each Friday, 10:00am to 2:30- 3.30pm.
  • Place: Stanmer Organics site, behind Stanmer Park.
  • What to wear: Sturdy footwear. In winter, warm old outdoor clothing. Don’t forget waterproofs. In summer a hat is essential.
  • What to bring: Packed lunch. Plenty to drink.

Stay for as little or long as you like. Work varies from gentle to more physical...you decide. If you contact us we can discuss what’s involved.

Each Friday through the year we work on our beautiful, sheltered, south-facing site overlooking the woods of Stanmer Park.

Simply join us whenever you can and for however long you can spare, on any friday.
